From today,23rd January 2012, the Driving Standards Agency is making changes to the UK driving Theory Test. They will add new multiple-choice Theory Test questions to the test. The DSA will not let anyone publish these new Theory Test questions, so they will not appear in any product, nor on any website.
This is the only change that has happened .

Tips for driving on snow and ice
- Pull away and accelerate gently and progressively. In slippery conditions such as snow and ice, aggressive acceleration will almost certainly break traction at the driven wheels. The resulting wheelspin can lead to loss of steering control in a front wheel drive (FWD) car, or an oversteer slide in a rear wheel drive (RWD). Both of these situations will prevent you from going in the direction you want and can be difficult to recover from.
- If you do notice wheelspin (or the traction control systems fighting for grip), don't floor the throttle, instead back off the gas and then reapply smoothly.
- Best practice is to keep engine revs low in order to maximize your grip in winter conditions. Keep a constant gentle throttle for best results.
- Change up sooner rather than later, pull away in second gear if possible, and use the highest practical gear at all times. This reduces the torque at the driven wheels and will therefore reduce the chances of wheelspin – also a useful trick when trying to climb a slippery muddy hill.
- Avoid any sudden driver inputs (such as steering, braking, acceleration or gear changes). You only have a finite level of grip available and you don't want to overload your tyres unnecessarily. Driving smoothly will conserve grip, and make you a safer driver.
- Brake soon, and gently. Be prepared to ease off the brakes (if you do not have ABS fitted) in order to steer. Locked wheels cannot steer!
- If you do have ABS, you'll be able to tell it has triggered by feeling a pulsing sensation through the brake pedal. If this has occurred do not 'pump' the brakes – rather keep a firm pressure on the pedal for maximum effectiveness. ABS is designed to help you steer as you're slowing down so use this to your advantage and avoid obstacles..
- Even if you do have ABS fitted, don't get into the habit of using the system unnecessarily.

there has been lots of speculation recently about a "new" theory test evolving in january.
the latest information we have received is that there will only be a change to the multiple choice module of the test.
New questions will be introduced to the multiple choice module ,but unlike in the past, the answers will not be available to the candidate.
The reason for this is to ensure the students have a better understanding of the driving theory so that the student is not just memorising the questions and answers in the test..

At the end of the summer I passed my driving test with Tony from 5 STAR DRIVING ACADEMY. I was so happy with the help he gave me that I wanted people to know about it.
My parents brought me a bundle of driving gift vouchers for Christmas last year. They found about at the school on the website after being recommended by a family friend. While I was dead excited about the fact I was going to learn to drive I was also starting to get nervous. In my mind I thought I would crash the car or something equally as stupid. Before my first lesson Tony rang me to confirm my lesson and to check how I was feeling about it all. I was really glad of this as it calmed my nerves a bit and it got rid of some of the fear of talking to a complete stranger.
On my first lesson Tony came and got me from my house. He spoke to me outside of the car for a few minutes and then we were off. He took me to a quite side road and showed me about what all the buttons and pedals do. I was really grateful of this because I was confused about what some of them were but I was too embarrassed to ask. After that it was my turn!! Tony showed me how to safely start, move off and stop the car. Suddenly I thought I was amazing as I could drive at just under 5MPH
After this I met with Tony every week to have a lesson and I was picking it up a lot quicker than I ever dreamed I would. At the end of each lesson I was given a information handout to help me recap the lessons. Tony also advised me to start doing my theory test straight away so that I could get it over and done with. With that passed I booked my driving test. Suddenly I began to question whether I was able to do this, but Tony sat and told me that I could, I just need to believe in myself.
The day of my test came and I was a bag of nerves. I had a lesson before hand which helped a lot as I calmed down and got comfortable. I walked into the test centre a little scared but knowing I could do it if I did exactly what I did in my lessons. And I did!!! A few minors here and there but I’d passed!!!
I want to say thank you to Tony and 5 star for all the training and help they have given me this year!

Sometimes even the best drivers need at little refresher...
Steve at 5star wanted to comment on a pupil whose circumstances were quite unique.
“Russell was in a bike accident five years ago that caused him to suffer from minor head injuries. This led to the DVLA taking his driving license off of him. Russell wanted to be able to drive again and so he met with me. He needed to take a Driving Assessment in Cannock to be able to regain his license. Since the end of July Russell has worked tirelessly with me to regain the skills and confidence he used to have so that he would be ready for his test. On the 8th November 2011 Russell passed his assessment and is now legally back on the road”
We would like to say a massive well done to Russell from all at 5 star as we wish him all the luck in the future.
